Ancient Egyptian drill handle from Amarna dated 1550 – 1295 BC

Straight roughly cylindrical shaft of wood, with a shallow groove around it near one end, blackened around this point. Also worn away or blackened in a short longitudinal section near the other end. Possibly used as a drill handle. Remains of the of two metal pins fixed into its side, probably the result of an early twentieth century display technique.
