Ancient Egyptian pot stand from Amarna dated 1550 – 1069 BC

Coiled basketry pot stand, made out of palm fibre or reed. Seven coils in total. The coils have been formed by gathering a group of fibres and then binding around them with another fibre to make a rope, which was then looped around to make the stand. The top coil has disintegrated into its loose constituents, and the second coil is starting to unravel. The stand appears to flare out slightly at the top and bottom, but this may be more exaggerated due to the collapse of the structure. The object is very fragile.
