Ancient Egyptian figurine from Naukratis dated 524 – 399 BC

Orange brown pottery head fragment from a figurine. Possibly of an old woman. Eyes, nose and mouth moulded, and the hairline which consists of short striations off the face in a band round the face, then plain. The face is furrowed and the mouth juts forward. The right hand side of the face is missing. There are patches of white or pink plaster on the face, and traces of red on the lips. At present the head is mounted on a black wooden plinth, using a wooden rod which has been glued into the head in the late nineteenth, early twentieth century.
