Ancient Egyptian mould from Naukratis dated 664 – 525 BC

Circular orange brown pottery mould, for making faience scarabs. The depression has the markings of the back of a scarab beetle, the clypeus, pronotum and elytra marked on it in raised relief. This would have been used in conjunction with another to impress the base. Traces of yellow powder in the mould. Outside base seems to have been pinched to form a ridge. Traces of pink rubber from modern cast made of the mould.
