Ancient Egyptian wool fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A natural coloured wool fragment with woollen warps. Both sides are selvedges with two groups of threads forming the outer warp edges, making them thicker. Dark mauve wool wool roundels are embroidered in ecru linen thread, slip stitched design of circles and a rectangle.
Plain woven. There are 16 warps and 15 wefts per centimetre. Embroidery only seen on one side.
