Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A fragment of a striped border stitched to a plain woven fabric. The border is woven in purple wool onto linen warps. The four stripes have scalloped edged and embroidered down the centre in cream linen to form small dots. The border is stitched in running stitches along one side to plain woven linen fabric.
The tapestry weave has 11 warps per centimetre.
