Ancient Egyptian wool fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A woollen woven fragment with a rectangular decorative embroidered panel. Selvedge along both sides. The woven ground has a raised surface on both sides creating a fairly thick fabric panel. Woven in dark purple coloured wool with an embroidered geometric design, probably worked in natural coloured flax.
There are eight warps per centimetre. Finely woven weft.
