Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A cream finely woven ground with a purple wool roundel, which is also finely woven. All over embroidered design forms a border with repeating interlocking swirling design. The centre of the roundel has a central circle surrounded by eight smaller circles with one of four different designs within. The background is embroidered to form fine stripes.
The weave has ten warps and 42 wefts per centimetre. Some of the embroidery stitches are worked around some of the warps.
