Ancient Egyptian wool fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

Part of a tunic. Natural coloured wool warps, woven in two bands of red wool and a central band of blue with orange floral tapestry woven design. One edge on the red wool is turned under and stitched in black wool. Plain weave with 8 to 9 warps per cm.
