Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A fragment of natural coloured plain woven linen ground with coloured woven stripes forming a border in red, blue and blue green wools. Fringe created from warps with four rows of double threads creating a thicker band with a woven pink stripe above. Selvedge to one side.
Plaited at selvedge side. Plain weave with 13 warps and eight wefts per centimetre. The coloured stripe has 14 wefts per centimetre.
