Ancient Egyptian wool fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A fragment of a tunic with a tapestry woven rectangle. The tunic is plian woven, natural coloured wool with selvedge along one side, woven cable edging to another side. The tapestry is woven in dark purple and natural coloured wools. The design is composed of an inner circle with swirling motifs surrounded by a narrow almost square border of a repeated geometric design.
The tunic has 11 warps per centimetre and the tapestry has ten warps per centimetre.
