Ancient Egyptian wool fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A length of dark yellow woollen cloth with a woven purple band decorated with tapestry woven wave design, probably in natural coloured flax down its length. A tuck, stitched in purple wool thread shortens the length. Thick red wool threads are incorporated into the weave, ending with two tassels beside the tuck.
Plain weave with eight warps per centimetre. The weft is finely woven.
