Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Faiyum dated AD 395 – 642

A strong lined cloth, self-colour, embroidered with thick flax and red wool, a patch of red forming the centre of each lozenge made by the flax stitches. The border is formed by thick self-colour flax thread stitches.
Plain weave with 16 warps and six wefts per centimetre.
