Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Faiyum dated AD 395 – 642

Portion of band in purple wool, and decorated with undyed linen thread, the design being a series of diamond shaped spaces filled in with geometrical and conventional devices. Long floats of thread on reverse side – some have worn away. There are 15 warps per centimetre.
