Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Oxyrhynchus dated AD 395 – 642

Linen with a double band of tapestry weave in purple wool. At each end of the band is a vase on a stand, from the vases spring a continuous band of floral stems with a flower or fruit in each compartment formed by the waving stem. he bands have a running wave border.
Tapestry and plain woven. There are ten warps per centimetre. Each warp is composed of two threads from the plain woven areas either side of the tapestry weave.
