Ancient Egyptian rim sherd from Deir el Bahari dated 1550 – 1295 BC

Rim sherd from a blue faience bowl or dish, decorated with dark blue black designs. The rim of the bowl has had a row of triangular wedges cut along its exterior edge, which have been matched with an incised zig zag design along the top of the rim. The triangles are without glaze, they were perhaps once inlaid. The interior decoration has part of a fan shaped object, probably a fish’s tail or a lotus flower. The exterior decoration has lines in the shape of a triangle, probably lotus petals. The faience is thick.
