Model wooden hawk on a plinth from the top of a minature coffin. The hawk has a dowel hole in the base of the plinth for attachment. The hawk is depicted, with legs together wings furled. Insect damage to the back of the wings has resulted in the loss of a large area of wood on the inside of the figure. All paint has also gone from the back of the bird. The front has been decorated in paint, red feet and legs, with the between infilled with white, black eyes and beak details, and a green plinth. The rest of the front of the body has been covered in gold leaf (over which the eyes were drawn.) There is a modern steel spike fixed into the figure’s left wing, from a twentieth century display technique.
