Pottery, perhaps, scarab with traces of gilding remaining on upper and lower surfaces. Flat base, with modelled upper part. The elytra, pronotum, and head are marked as were the legs at the side of the piece. The elytra has vertical stripes running up it. A black deposit, possibly bituminous, exists on part of the base, perhaps as a method of securing the scarab to the mummy. It feels relatively heavy for its size.
