Ancient Egyptian basket fragment from Amarna dated 1550 – 1295 BC

Rosette made from brown papyrus leaves with a central hole. Made by winding a covered strip of fibres round and round, and then binding over the loops to form a flat disc. The piece has started to unravel, and may have formed the centre of a basket base lid. Friable and fragile with surface mould.
