Ancient Egyptian basket fragments from Mostagedda dated 4000 – 3500 BC

Short lengths of fragments of basketry. They consist of a central bundle of reed fibres around which are spirally wound flat strips of grass or the split leaf of a reed. The strips are from O.5mm to 1mm wide, so closely wrapped as to form a smooth unbroken surface. Probably used in some form of basketwork.
