Wooden hoe handle. Rounded top, with a rectangular notch cut a little way down from this for the blade. In this hole are fragments of linen? cloth/threads, which probably helped to anchor the original blade. The other end of the handle flares out and is cut on the diagonal. Half way along the handle is a carved knotch. There are also some incised cuts between the knotch and the hole for the blade, and some patches of decay where the wood has fallen away.
