Ancient Egyptian human face mask from Abydos dated 1400 – 1200 BC

Unbaked mud or clay mask of a human face, with flat back. Grey in colour, with traces of white paint or plaster, particularly on nose and lips. Nose, eyes, brow ridges, lips and chin modelled. Nose is quite finely formed, rest more roughly shaped. Clay has been added to the brow and chin but not fully worked into the form. In its rough state it has the look of the elongated features of the Amarna period.
