Ancient Egyptian jar from Badari dated 5300 – 3000 BC

Large bulbous storage jar with an ovaloid body and a flat base. A very short, straight neck leads to a rounded rim. An incised herringbone pattern around neck just below rim. Contained pods and seeds of gilban, Lathyrus sativus, a fodder plant used as a vegetable.
