Ancient Egyptian jar from El Hammamiya dated 3000 – 2890 BC
A pottery jar with a spherical body, rounded base and short neck with a flaring rounded rim. It is handmade, with a turned neck and rim. It has self slip, with decoration in red applied with a brush. It is decorated in six vertical bands from the neck down most of the body with five vertical bands composed of four sets of four vertical lines; and one vertical band composed of three sets of four vertical lines. There is an incised potter’s mark on central body.
