Ancient Egyptian jar from El Mahasna dated 4000 – 3500 BC

A polished red pottery jar, with an ovaloid body, flat base and flaring pointed rim. It was coil built from a clay containing limestone inclusions, with a red slip vertically polished on the exterior and horizontally polished on the band inside the rim. Not evenly shaped and leans to one side when standing. Probably a votive or funerary offering.
