Ancient Egyptian jar from Qushtamna dated 5300 – 3000 BC

Handmade ovoid jar of black topped red ware with black mouth and burnished black interior. Reddish brown exterior, discoloured by smoke, with painted red wash and polished. Rougher fabric than Egyptian Predynastic, locally made. Ovaloid body with a rounded base, slightly narrowing towards a wide, straight, unmodelled rim.
