Ancient Egyptian jar lid from Amarna dated 1550 – 1295 BC

A circular domed painted pottery jar lid. Made up of several fragments. The upper surface has painted on it a central orange brown cirlce, edged in black, from which radiate lotus petals in powder blue. The petals are painted as if alternately under and over a band of three black concentric circles, which are drawn in a little below the mid points of the petals. The tips of the petals reach a black line, which forms a ring around the edge of the lid. The background is orange brown, which is darker in some places than others, perhaps as a result of the conservation carried out when the sherds were rejoined.
