Ancient Egyptian linen fragment from Antinoe dated AD 395 – 642

Tapestry woven band on flax warp. The design, conventional leaves, rosettes and small squares within a plain border, being worked in green and red on a ground of flax. Plain weave. Selvedge on one side. There are seven warps per centimetre composed of two threads per warp. The threads part to form a plain weave either side of the tapestry weave. Thereare 14 warps per centimetre.
