Ancient Egyptian linen fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A fragment of woven linen, cut from a border, with coloured stripes and a fringe. Natural coloured linen ground with finely, plain woven stripes in wool, forming a repeating striped design. There are two thick blue stripes borderd by thin green stripes, and one thick blue stripe bordered by thin red stripes. There is a salmon pink stripe woven by the fringed edge. The woollen threads here are in pairs. Thicker linen threads, two and three ply, form the base edge. The warp threads form a long fringe.
There are ten warps and nine wefts per centimetre.
