Ancient Egyptian mantle fragment from Matmar dated AD 395 – 642

Portion of red woollen child’s mantle or pallium with tapestry woven bands, panels, and fragment of large roundel in purple wool and natural coloured linen thread. Weave is weft faced tabby with tapestry and brocading. Two selvedges are preserved. Decoration is of rich geometric patterns.
