Ancient Egyptian pectoral from mummy case from Atfih Maidum dated 332 BC – AD 395

Fragment of painted cartonnage of floral collar of rows of petals, rosettes, spheroid beads and triangular stylised lotus blooms. Above are hawk headed terminals with sun’s discs. One at either side. Between them is a winged scarab, based on a mat. The colours used are blue, white, red, green, yellow and black, and they remain very vivid. Part of the right terminal is missing, as is a small section from the base of the collar. There are two cracks running through the winged scarab, with losses in parts. The piece has been backed in the twentieth century, twice.
