Ancient Egyptian rim sherd from Amarna dated 1550 – 1295 BC

Rim sherd of a large pottery bowl, decorated in blue and brown paint. Original bowl had a wide mouth, with sides that sloped out towards the shoulder of the vessel, and then turned inwards slightly towards the base. Decoration was in a wide band the rim of the pot to the shoulder. A brown line deliniated the shoulder, and from that rose regular petal shapes in blue, above these and between them were groups of three brown lines at regular intervals which abutted a further double brown line in which decoration and powder blue, edging the rim. The rest of the vessel was left the natural colour of the pottery, a shade of beige.
