Ancient Egyptian shoe fragment from Antinoe and Antinoopolis dated AD 400 – 600

Leather sole, possibly from a shoe or sandal of a child. Probably a sandal because of the hole pierced through the middle of the sole, towards one end. Made from two pieces of leather stitched together, but now only fragments of the second piece remain to the edge seam. The leather is curled over upon itself at one end, and curled nearly in half along its longitudinal axis. The leather is dry and brittle, and several small pieces have broken off.
