Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Antinoe dated AD 395 – 642

Tapestry woven border, dark blue wool on flax warp, with design in undyed flax. Quatrefoil blossoms within ovals surrounded by circles composed of various geometrical devices. Blue warp and weft with natural coloured flax warp. Blue plain woven 18 warps and 18 weft threads per centimetre. The design is made of flax threads worked in pairs with long floats on the reverse.
