Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A roundel of purple wool with a cream linen embroidered design of interconnecting geometric patterns within a border design around the whole design. The roundel is within a yellow woollen ground fabric which is trimmed along one side with six thickly twisted woollen threads forming a raised border.
Plain woven, finely worked. There are ten warps per centimetre. Embroidered mainly on the face side with some threads visible on the reverse side.
