Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A large woven woollen fragment with a tapestry woven roundel. Natural coloured with purple roundel, which is embroidered in ecru linen thread in its centre with points around the outer edge of the roundel. A fringe of twisted wool is applied to one side. This edge has a very even darned design in thick wool thread.
There are 13 warps per centimetre. Very fine closely woven wool weft.
