Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

Woven border, in red wool and undyed flax, stitched to purple and self-colour woollen tunic. Some of the light stripes, having perished, have been roughly repaired by the owner. The band is ornamented with lozenge shaped spaces, outlined with waving floral stems enclosing star shaped devices.
Decorative border, plain woven with geometric design incorporated, long floats from design on reverse. Tapestry section is darned in wool.
