Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Oxyrhynchus dated AD 395 – 642

A linen panel embroidered in dark blue wool and fine flax thread. The centre has a convolute design in flax thread on the blue ground. This is surrounded by a crested border, a broad blue band enclosing the square. The wool has partly perished in the border.
Embroidered onto plain weave, linen stitches tightly worked. Some form of couching has been worked. Net conceals technique.
