Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Oxyrhynchus dated AD 395 – 642

A roundel, linen, tapestry woven in coloured wools and undyed flax. The centre has a kneeling figure holding something, possibly a harp. Birds and other devices occupy spaces formed by a waving floral stem, worked in flax, in a band between the centre and the elaborately decorated border.
There are nine warps per centimetre. Z twist. Edge of the roundel is turned onto the reverse side.
