Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Oxyrhynchus dated AD 395 – 642

A small tapestry woven panel attached to a fragment of fine linen tunic. Purple wool ground with convolute design worked in very fine undyed flax thread. A border of leaves on upright stems.
Tapestry and plain weave. There are 12 warps per centimetre and two threads per warp. Fine embroidered design to create geometric shapes in the tapestry woven centre.
