Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Oxyrhynchus dated AD 395 – 642

A linen panel, tapestry woven on purple wool, with a crested border. The centre has had a figure of a warrior; the lower part of this is preserved. A number of circular compartments have surrounded this figure, three are shown, the corner one with a running hare. The others are filled with indistinct crosses.
Tapestry and plain weave. There are ten warps per centimetre. Each warp has two threads. Some embroidery used to outline the hare and leg of warrior.
