Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Oxyrhynchus dated AD 395 – 642

A fragment of linen dyed deep green. Embroidered in red and yellow silk. The design is of a red diamond with two yellow plaits in it. The lines of the diamond overshoot to form the beginnings of four other diamonds.
Plain woven linen. Embroidered motif. Stitches from a plait on the front and running stitch on the reverse. Yellow stitch worked after the red. Stitch similar to blanket stitch worked on one edge.
