Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Tanis San el Hagar dated AD 395 – 642

Brown wool with woven stripes of self-colour weft. Knotted. One piece has an applied band with flax warp and unusually fine and closely woven black wool weft.

Tan coloured and cream plain weave. 13 warps per cm. 20 wefts per cm. Blue/black fabric – plain weave. 14 warps per cm – tightly Z twisted flax. Fine weft.
