Ancient Egyptian tomb model of a vat from Deir el Bahari Thebes dated 2055 – 2004 BC

Wooden model of a tall cylindrical vat. Flat circular top is painted white. The Top rim and sides are painted red. The base is unpainted, but there are traces of black paint/glue (ancient/modern?). Some paint loss. Acquired with other model vats and jars (see 1907.90.3 items) The shallow vat probably represents the container for the fermenting bread mixture known as mash. The tall cylindrical vat would have been used to strain the mash, leaving the liquid beer to be transferred into the tall, shouldered jars.
Colour: red & white
