Ancient Egyptian tunic fragment from Matmar dated AD 395 – 642

Portion of dark blue woollen tunic. Selvedge on one end, cabled edging on each side. Broad and narrow yellow stripes near one side. Two finely worked roundels 50mm from top and bottom edges, tapestry woven in red, blue, green and yellow. Designs are animals and birds in compartments surrounding a central oval worked with flower buds, within a green line. Whole enclosed within wave border, yellow on red ground.
