Ancient Egyptian tunic fragment from Matmar dated AD 395 – 642

Tapestry woven square from woollen tunic. Centre within a circle of purple is occupied by an animal design in red and green on a yellow ground. This is enclosed within a square of green, red floral designs worked in each corner. Between this square and an outer one, also green, are designs of lions and other animal forms, worked in red, green and yellow. Crested border in red.
