Ancient Egyptian wool fragment from Hawara or Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

An embroidered border with an applied woollen plait. It has a geometric design of joining squares with repeating designs within. An embroidered wave runs along both sides. All probably worked in natural coloured flax. On a brown woollen ground. There is a red woollen plait with a small end tuft. The yellow warps are in an S twist.
Plain woven with eight warps per cebtimetre. Tapestry woven within the woven ground.
