Ancient Egyptian wool fragment from Illahun dated AD 395 – 642

A rectangular woven panel in purple wool with an oval embroidered motif in the centre, worked in natural coloured linen thread with a repeating geometric design. An outer stylised motif border is tapestry woven.
Plain woven with eight warps per centimetre. Closely woven weft.
