Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Tanis San el Hagar dated AD 395 – 642

Tapestry woven border stitched to a fragment of tunic of yellow wool with interwoven flax in border. Deep blue ground with zigzag line of waving floral stem, the spaces filled with triangular device, all worked in undyed flax.

Tapestry and plain weave. Tapestry – 12 warps per cm. Plain weave – 14 warps per cm. Wefts vary.
