Ancient Egyptian textile fragment from Tanis San el Hagar dated AD 395 – 642

Wool, loose weave, deep red colour, three stripes woven in undyed flax and edged with line of fancy stitching in undyed flax.

Body of piece plain woven. 3 stripes give twill effect. Plaited edge – 3 plait in which the outer edge has incorporated the warp threads.
